Thousands of Texas FFA student leaders gathered in Fort Worth July 6-10 for the 98th annual Texas FFA State Convention, bringing together students from across the state for leadership development, recognition and service opportunities.

As part of their convention experience, Texas FFA members partnered with Keep Fort Worth Beautiful (KFWB) to give back to the community through two litter cleanup events. The service project reflected the FFA motto: "Learning to do. Doing to learn. Earning to live. Living to serve."

"Service is at the heart of the FFA experience. As we convene in Fort Worth for the Texas FFA Convention, volunteering to serve is our opportunity to give back and show our appreciation for the kindness, generosity and warm welcome this community has shown us," said FFA Coordinator Liz Treptow. "It's a small way to say 'thank you' while living out the values of FFA."

On July 6 and 7, FFA students worked alongside KFWB and Environmental Services Department staff to remove 229 bags of litter from Fort Worth parks and surrounding neighborhoods. Despite the summer heat, students stayed engaged as they collected debris from trails, playground areas, tree lines and waterways.

At Glenwood Park, some students went beyond the usual cleanup areas by carefully navigating the banks of Sycamore Creek to remove additional litter. Their teamwork and enthusiasm demonstrated their commitment to making a positive impact in the communities they visit.

"We rely on continued partnerships, like the one with Texas FFA, to enhance our litter removal programs," said KFWB Coordinator Amanda Maron. "It was inspiring to join forces with these young leaders as they chose to participate in environmental stewardship during their conference."

KFWB provided cleanup supplies and support during the events, while Environmental Services Department staff helped ensure collected litter and debris were properly handled and disposed of.

Through partnerships with organizations like Texas FFA, Keep Fort Worth Beautiful continues to engage volunteers in efforts that help maintain clean, vibrant spaces throughout the city.
