Bucharest Stock Exchange warns of new deceptive attempts - Sites copying BVB s portal graphic elements and promising fake dividends to steal banking data

Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) wishes to inform the public about the emergence of misleading websites that copy BVB's visual identity to illegally collect personal data and sensitive banking information.

Unknown individuals have created web pages that replicate the graphic design of BVB's official website (https://www.bvb.ro). Under the false pretext that users are eligible to withdraw dividends exceeding RON 23,000, attackers request the completion of a form with critical data, including the Personal Identification Number (CNP), IBAN account, phone number, email address. This information can later be used to access the victims' bank accounts and misappropriate funds.

Bucharest Stock Exchange clearly states that it never requests personal or banking data directly on its own website for the purpose of dividend payments.

For your online safety, we advise you to follow these rules:

  1. Always check the URL: BVB's official website is www.bvb.ro. Any other variation of the name or extension is an indicator of a scam.
  2. The source of dividends: The distribution of dividends is carried out exclusively through the Central Depository, payment agents designated by issuers, or through the broker where you have an active trading account. BVB does not make direct payments to investors.
  3. Do not provide banking data: Never enter card details or authentication codes on sites promising unexpected amounts of money.
  4. Verify information: If you receive such messages, immediately contact the mentioned institution through official communication channels before taking any action.

Bucharest Stock Exchange's team is cooperating with the relevant authorities to report and shut down these deceptive websites.

At the same time, we urge you not to respond under any circumstances to requests received from unknown people falsely claiming to be employees of the BVB or the Central Securities Depository. Bucharest Stock Exchange and Central Securities Depository do not and will not request personal data or the installation of mobile applications for the purpose of obtaining money or conducting any type of transaction.

The only way to invest in companies listed on the BVB is by opening a trading account with one of the authorized intermediaries, the list of which is available on https://www.bvb.ro at this LINK.

We recommend reporting any deceptive attempts to the competent authorities, specifically the Romanian Police (https://www.politiaromana.ro/ro/utile/intrebari-frecvente/unde-ne-adresam).
