Rep. Summer Lee Announces New Position on Powerful House Judiciary Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - JUNE 9, 2026 - Today, Congresswoman Summer L. Lee (PA-12) announced her appointment to the powerful House Committee on the Judiciary, where she will continue her fight to defend civil rights, protect our democracy, advance equal justice under the law, and conduct critical oversight of the Trump administration and corporate interests. The Judiciary Committee also has jurisdiction over the Epstein Files Transparency Act, allowing Congresswoman Lee to continue her work demanding transparency, accountability, and answers for survivors and the American people as she transitions from the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

"The Judiciary Committee is where some of the most important fights of our time are happening, from protecting our rights and defending our democracy to taking on corruption and ensuring no one, not billionaires, not corporations, not Donald Trump or his administration, is above the law," said Rep. Lee. "I came to Congress to fight for the people who have been ignored, harmed, exploited, and shut out of power, and this new role gives us another powerful tool to keep demanding justice. Whether it is fighting for survivors, demanding transparency around the Epstein files, defending the constitutional rights of our communities, or holding the powerful accountable, I am ready to keep pushing, keep advocating, and keep delivering for the people of Western Pennsylvania."

Rep. Lee's appointment also carries historic weight, placing her among the handful of Black women in history to serve on the committee.

The House Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over issues including civil liberties, constitutional rights, criminal justice, antitrust enforcement, immigration, federal courts, and oversight of the Department of Justice. In her new role, Congresswoman Lee will bring her record of fearless advocacy for working families, survivors, marginalized communities, and everyday people too often left behind.
