Lakers seek to snap three-game slump

Grand Valley is in unfamiliar territory after losing to Saginaw Valley State last weekend.

The Lakers have lost their last three games in a row, their first three-game losing streak since opening the 2014 season with three consecutive defeats.

Grand Valley (5-3, 1-3 GLIAC) will look to get back on track this weekend, when it travels to suburban Chicago to face Roosevelt (5-3, 1-3 GLIAC). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on October 31.

With the loss to Saginaw Valley, the Lakers dropped out of the D2football.com Top 25 but are hanging on to the No. 25 spot in the American Football Coaches Association poll. The Lakers committed five turnovers - three interceptions, two fumbles - giving the Cardinals the opportunity to pull off the upset.

The Lakers aim to regain their momentum against Roosevelt, which is tied with GVSU and Northern Michigan for fifth place in the GLIAC.

While Grand Valley possesses the conference's top passing offense, averaging 269.3 yards a game, Roosevelt's offense is close behind, ranking second at 259.5 yards per game.

Roosevelt has two quarterbacks who can offer different looks for defenses. Tony Chachino will likely see the majority of snaps, but Carl Bew can add an extra dimension to Roosevelt's offense with his ability to run and throw. Receiver DJ Simmons Jr. has been their primary target this season.
