Augusta Ranks Among Georgia's Top FEMA Recovery Leaders
AUGUSTA, GA - (October 28, 2025) - The City of Augusta continues to make steady progress in Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. During today's Public Safety committee meeting, officials announced that Augusta now ranks #5 out of 279 applicants in Georgia for total obligated funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
This achievement reflects months of tireless collaboration, documentation, and coordination across local, state, and federal partners. To date, $49 million has been obligated by FEMA, meaning the funds have been approved and released to the State for drawdown once project work is completed.
Augusta has already received $34.9 million in reimbursements. Approximately $26.4 million in expenses have been submitted and remain under FEMA review, and another $8 million in potential costs is under review to be submitted.
The City's total estimated damage cost from Hurricane Helene stands at $87.3 million, with $79.3 million already submitted to FEMA for evaluation.
"Our recovery progress is a direct result of teamwork, persistence, and the dedication of every person involved in this process," said City Administrator Tameka Allen. We're incredibly proud of how far we've come. This is a testament to what can be accomplished when government agencies work together for the people they serve."
As Augusta continues to draw down approved expenses and finalize project scopes, the City remains focused on maximizing recovery, strengthening local infrastructure, and ensuring that every federal dollar supports community resilience.
