Minna Mustakallio appointed Head of Responsible Artificial Intelligence at Yle

Minna Mustakallio, M.Sc.(Econ.) has been appointed Head of Responsible Artificial Intelligence at Yle. She will start in this role on May 6, 2024.

The role of the Head of Responsible Artificial Intelligence is new at Yle. The aim is to promote and enable strategic, active and responsible use of artificial intelligence at Yle.

Mustakallio has extensive experience in developing the strategic and responsible use of artificial intelligence in business and in drawing up responsible artificial intelligence guidelines for different companies. She has been named twice on the Women in AI Ethics community's 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics list. She will move to Yle from a position as partner and AI and Impact Lead for the consultancy company un/known. Previously, she has worked for Silo AI as Lead Designer and Saidot as Head of Product.

The Head of Responsible Artificial Intelligence will support Yle's units in drawing up, updating and maintaining AI related guidelines and assist in the consideration of AI principles, risks, legality and responsibility. She will also be responsible for making decisions on the responsible application of AI and be involved in promoting regulatory issues related to AI.

The principles and guidelines are at the heart of this, but at the same time we must also consider the role of artificial intelligence at Yle, in the media and in society at large," says Johanna Törn-Mangs, Director of Responsible Artificial Intelligence at Yle.

The Head of Responsible Artificial Intelligence will be part of the Strategy and Accounts unit and a member of the unit's management team. In this role, she will report to both Marit af Björkesten, Head of Strategy and Audience Insight, and to Johanna Törn-Mangs.
