Public's Assistance Sought in Locating Hit and Run Driver Involved in Fatal Collision

The motorcyclist killed Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. after he was struck from behind by the hit and run driver of a silver Mercedes SUV at the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and Pitts Avenue is identified as James C. Sellars, 33, of Hendersonville.

The preliminary investigation shows that Sellars was stopped at a red light in the southbound lanes of Old Hickory Boulevard when he was struck from behind by a silver smaller style Mercedes SUV. Sellars and his Kawasaki CR 1000 were pushed through the intersection and struck a traffic light pole. He died at the scene.

The driver of the Mercedes SUV, which sustained front end damage, continued southbound on Old Hickory Boulevard. The SUV is missing the front bumper cover which was located at the scene.

Anyone with information about the hit and run vehicle or driver is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
