Hansae Mobility Expands in Macomb County

Hansae Mobility is making a major investment in Macomb County, relocating its Michigan operations from Pontiac to a 460,000-square-foot facility in Chesterfield Township. The South Korean automotive supplier specializes in driveline systems, including half-shafts, and serves major global automakers including Stellantis and Volkswagen. The move represents nearly $70 million in total investment and will retain 171 existing jobs while creating an additional 102 positions, bringing the company's total local workforce to 273 employees. Hansae Mobility's current Pontiac operation encompasses approximately 157,000 square feet, making the Chesterfield facility a significant expansion of its Michigan footprint.

Macomb County Planning and Economic Development worked closely with Hansae Mobility, Chesterfield Township and state partners to help move the project forward. MCPED helped coordinate the company's relocation and previously supported approval of a 12-year tax abatement associated with the project. The team also connected Hansae Mobility with Macomb Community College and Michigan Works! to explore workforce training and hiring resources, including the Michigan New Jobs Training Program, On-the-Job Training and Going PRO Talent Fund opportunities. With approximately $2 million being invested in real property and nearly $67.8 million in machinery and equipment, the project strengthens both the county's manufacturing base and its skilled workforce.

Hansae Mobility is expected to begin moving employees into the Chesterfield facility in July, with operations anticipated to begin in November and the transition from its Pontiac location expected to be completed by June 2027. The expansion demonstrates why global manufacturers continue to choose Macomb County for access to skilled talent, an established automotive supply chain and a strong network of economic development partners.
