Residents of Richardson Dwellings came together on October 4 for a celebration of community, with the DC Housing Authority's (DCHA) latest Rebuilding Our Communities Block Party. Residents enjoyed good food, live music, games, and so much more.
Local community members, neighbors, DCHA staff and service providers joined the festivities.
Prior to the event, DCHA staff and volunteers distributed free groceries and household supplies to Richardson Dwellings residents and free haircuts were available during the block party. The event featured safe, fun and family-friendly activities, including face-painting, caricature drawings, a foam party, arcade games, a visit from Mickey Mouse and live music, plus free refreshments from food trucks and other vendors.
DCHA's block parties will continue through the end of October. This event was part of the DC Housing Authority's Rebuilding Our Communities initiative, which aims to foster connections among DCHA residents, DCHA staff and community members, while also offering opportunities to access useful resources.
More than a dozen service providers took part, speaking with attendees about resources related to education and workforce development programs, job opportunities, healthcare services, and more. Participating organizations included local nonprofits, academic institutions, private employers, and DC government agencies that are dedicated to uplifting the city's residents.
DCHA is grateful for the service providers who helped make this event possible:
