Italy celebrates Africa with sport. Tajani will be at the initiative “Italy-Africa: Cultures at Play” tomorrow with African sports champions

Italy is celebrating Africa Day with sport. Sports champions from Africa and those of African descent will be present tomorrow at the initiative "Italy-Africa: Cultures at Play", promoted on the occasion of Africa Day 2026. The event will be opened by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani at 9:45 a.m. at the Institute of the Treccani Italian Encyclopedia.

The May 25 anniversary, which celebrates the birth of the Organization of African Unity, will be dedicated this year to the role of sport as a tool for dialogue, inclusion, education, and shared growth between Italy and Africa.

The panels will feature testimonies from Olympic champions, athletes from the Italian national team, and other leading sports figures who, through their personal and professional experiences, are a natural bridge between Italy and Africa and an example of integration, growth, and intercultural dialogue. Universities, associations, and organizations committed to cooperation between Italy and Africa will also be present, exploring the opportunities provided to young people through sports, culture, and education.

Economic relations between Italy and Africa are increasingly solid and complex: Italy is Africa's eighth largest supplier and the fourth largest destination market for African exports.
