Guilford Metro (GM) 911 is celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, April 12-18. This annual observance honors the professionals who answer emergency calls, dispatch first responders and equipment, and provide critical assistance during times of crisis. Their work is essential in saving lives and keeping the community safe.
GM 911 is marking the week with activities to recognize and appreciate its employees. An awards ceremony will be held Monday, April 13, at the GM 911 Justice Complex. Honorees include recipients of the Ace Award and the recognition of 45 Life Saves. Additionally, the top three awards will be presented to the following employees: Rookie of the Year, Keith Kerney; Support Person of the Year, Brianna Lowe; and Telecommunicator of the Year, Kasi Edwards.
The nominees for these awards are selected by their peers, with the final winners chosen by a panel of 911 professionals from other parts of North Carolina.
In addition to the awards, the ceremony will showcase GM 911's achievements over the past year. The center, which serves all of Greensboro and Guilford County, processed more than 670,000 telephone transactions, close to 400,000 dispatches, and approximately 2.4 million radio transmissions in 2025. With approximately 90 employees working 12-hour shifts in the Emergency Communications Center, GM 911 is responsible for answering and dispatching all law enforcement, fire service, and medical calls for assistance.
