Illinois Power Agency Publishes September 2026 Blog Post: Seasonal Energy Pricing 101

The Illinois Power Agency (IPA) has published a new blog post, Seasonal Energy Pricing 101.

While high summer electric bills are a common trend across the nation, what drives seasonal energy pricing can be more complicated than the average customer may realize. By taking a closer look at the Electricity Supply components of an electricity bill - energy and capacity - the blog explains why costs can rise during periods of high demand.

The post also explores how seasonal pricing can differ for Alternative Retail Electric Supplier (ARES) customers and default service customers, which are residential and small commercial customers who have not switched to an ARES.
