1. At the invitation of Mag. Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria, Mr. Nasser BOURITA, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, paid a working and friendly visit to Vienna on April 22, 2026. This visit was an opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation on issues of common interest.
2. The two Ministers welcomed the historic and privileged partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Austria, dating back more than 240 years. Building upon this exceptional shared history, the two Countries seek to usher in a new era of comprehensive and genuine strategic partnership. To this effect, both Ministers reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepening collaboration across all dimensions: political, diplomatic, security, economic, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
3. The two sides also welcomed the strong momentum and significant progress, which has marked relations between their Countries in recent years, mainly after the adoption, on March 1st, 2023, of the Joint Political Declaration, as a roadmap on all the Segments of cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Austria.
4. Austria welcomes the vast reforms carried out by Morocco, under the Leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, for a more open and dynamic Moroccan society and economy, notably through the new development model and advanced regionalization as well as the empowerment of women and sustainable development.
5. The two sides welcome the strengthening of relations between the legislative and Judicial institutions of the two countries and stress, in this regard, the importance of inter-parliamentary contacts, which play an essential role in strengthening bilateral relations, and welcome the exchange of official visits between the Speakers of the two countries.
6. The two countries noted with satisfaction the increase in trade exchanges between the two countries and investments made by Austrian enterprises in Morocco in the last years. They also expressed satisfaction with the recent developments in industrial cooperation and the wish to share best practices and develop common projects in the field of Energy efficiency and renewable Energy.
7. Besides, Morocco and Austria underline their positive and constructive roles in maintaining stability, security and peace in their respective regions and note their attachment to these principles, as well as, to a peaceful conflict resolution and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of States

Austria restated its commitment to the resolution of the dispute in Western Sahara and welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025), which expresses full support for the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in facilitating and conducting negotiations, taking as a basis Morocco's Autonomy Proposal, with a view to achieving a just, lasting and mutually acceptable resolution of the dispute, consistent with the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter and which affirms that genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty could constitute a most feasible solution. Austria welcomed Morocco's willingness to engage in good faith with all parties concerned in order to clarify the arrangements under this autonomy plan and explain what shape a genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty would take.
9. Morocco and Austria underline the importance of developing cooperation, partnership and dialogue between the EU and its southern neighborhood and with the Euro-African area. In this regard, Austria welcomes the Joint Communiqué of the 15th EU Morocco Association Council held in Brussels, on January 29th 2026, in which Morocco and EU warmly welcome the Pact of the Mediterranean, launched in Barcelona on November 28th 2025, which embodies the strategic ambition to redefine relations between the EU and its southern partners, in a spirit of partnership based on mutual trust and shared responsibility.
10. In this context, Austria welcomes Morocco's action in favor of the development of a new model of South-South cooperation and stress the importance of promoting triangular cooperation between Austria-Morocco and their partners on the African continent.
11. Both Sides confirmed their commitment to the two-State solution where two democratic States, Israel and Palestine, live side by side in peace within secure and recognized borders, consistent with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
