County Commissioners proclaim May 2026
as Mental Health Awareness Month

FREEHOLD, NJ - The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness Month during its Commissioners Workshop Meeting held on May 28.

"Mental health is every bit as important as physical health," said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. "While people are often quick to seek care for physical illnesses, many still hesitate to ask for help with emotional or mental health challenges. Fortunately, there are dedicated and compassionate mental health professionals ready to support those in need. We hope recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month helps encourage conversations and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health care."

The proclamation was presented by Commissioner Susan M. Kiley, liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services, on behalf of the Board, to staff members from the Monmouth County Department of Health and Human Services.

"Awareness, understanding and compassion play an important role in helping those affected by mental health struggles," said Commissioner Kiley. "We are grateful for the dedicated mental health professionals who provide care and guidance throughout our community. Monmouth ACTS offers valuable assistance for residents in need, and by calling 732-683-8959, individuals can speak with a trained social worker. Anyone experiencing a mental health emergency should contact the 988 Crisis Hotline."
