Consumer Federation of America Urges Collection of Additional Data on Rising Homeowners Costs

In comments to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)'s Property and Casualty Committee, the Consumer Federation of America urged the insurance regulators to collect additional information on rising homeowners insurance costs and make the data publicly available. The comments applaud the proposed expansions to collect information on insurance policies other than for single family homes and offer suggestions on how to further strengthen the data call.

The revised Homeowners Insurance Market Data Call includes improvements over the data call collected in 2024. The NAIC should expand this revised approach by collecting the additional insurance data on residual insurance plans, affordable housing policies, and surplus lines insurance. The NAIC should also make that data publicly available, and affirm that this will be an annual data call going forward.
