WHEREAS: Homeownership enables Oregonians to establish roots in the neighborhood of their choosing to build a sense of community and belonging, thereby strengthening families and promoting well-being; and
WHEREAS: Homeownership empowers Oregonians to invest in their own future by creating residential permanency, which supports employment status and creates opportunities to build wealth that can be passed along from one generation to the next; and
WHEREAS: Oregon is dedicated to the funding and development of affordable homeownership opportunities and financial assistance programs in alignment with the Fair Housing Act, including for first-time homebuyers of color, veterans, residents in rural areas, and those with lower incomes; and
WHEREAS: Oregon is committed to partnering with Tribal Nations to support their members in becoming homeowners and ensuring they can maintain and remain in their homes; and
WHEREAS: The development and sustainment of homeownership opportunities contribute positively to the economic health of the state; and
WHEREAS: June marks Homeownership Month and is an opportunity to reflect on our collective progress, advance housing policy that addresses affordability and access, and acknowledge the remaining challenges to provide opportunities for all, including those who are historically disenfranchised, who seek a place to call home.
NOW, THEREFORE: I, Tina Kotek, Governor of the State of Oregon, hereby proclaim June 2026 to be HOMEOWNERSHIP MONTH in Oregon and encourage all Oregonians to join in this observance.
