SACP condemns blockade of Venezuela by imperialist US government as an act of war

Friday, 19 December 2025: - The South African Communist Party (SACP) unequivocally condemns the imperialist US regime's blockade of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela as an act of war.

On Tuesday, the US government under Donald Trump ordered the blockade of all oil tankers that have been illegally sanctioned by the US from entering and leaving Venezuela. By Wednesday, the regime had moved thousands of troops and nearly a dozen warships, including an aircraft carrier, closer to Venezuelan waters to encircle and attack the sovereign state. Additionally, on the same day, the US House of Representatives acquiesced to Trump's absolute powers to use military force against Venezuela.

Since September, US troops have murdered at least 99 people in the Caribbean and Pacific following Trump's order, carrying out more that 20 strikes on fishermen under the pretext of a war on drugs. The claims of drug trafficking against these fishermen have been repeatedly debunked. This not only demonstrates acts of violence with impunity but also the inhumane nature of the United States regime, which disregards the human rights of the people residing south of the United States. The true intention of these attacks is the recolonisation of Venezuela and the South American region, in line with the US's archaic Munroe Doctrine, to exploit the country's natural resources, particularly oil.

As previously articulated, it is evident that the United States military industrial complex necessitates the perpetration of another war to sustain its operations and procure financial benefits for its economic benefactors in the face of the failure of other industries to remain viable; especially so when considering the economic expansion of China in areas previously dominated by the US.

The SACP reiterates its condemnation of the US attacks on Venezuela. We reiterate our unwavering commitment to solidarity with the people of Venezuela and continue to urge the peace-loving people of the world to stand with Venezuela against this aggression. We pledge our support to the community of nations in the Caribbean region whose peaceful existence is threatened by the war that the US is manufacturing for its own geopolitical interests.
