The Port of San Diego joins public agencies throughout the country in celebrating May 18-24, 2025 as National Public Works Week to honor public works professionals and recognize the important role they play in our everyday lives.
Since 1960, the American Public Works Association (APWA) has sponsored National Public Works Week to help celebrate the thousands of public works professionals across the U.S. and Canada. This year's theme, "People, Purpose, Presence," highlights the qualities that public works professionals bring to their jobs every day. Public works professionals include those working on infrastructure, facilities and services that are vital to the community. Port of San Diego team members across multiple departments build, maintain and support public infrastructure, parks and other amenities along the San Diego Bay waterfront. On May 6, 2025, the Board of Port Commissioners adopted a resolution in support of National Public Works Week.

"People are at the heart of the Port, and we could not fulfill our mission to the community without the incredible work of our public works professionals," said Chair Danielle Moore of the Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners. "We are deeply grateful to our staff, consultants, and contractors for their daily dedication to keeping our waterfront clean, safe, and accessible for everyone to enjoy."
In 2017, the Port of San Diego became the first port in the United States to be awarded National Accreditation through the APWA. It was re-accredited in 2021 for another four years. The Accreditation program recognizes public agencies that go beyond the requirements of the management practices established nationally as contained in the APWA Public Works Management Practices Manual.
