Amo Statement on House Passage of ALERT Act

Washington, DC - TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) issued the following statement after passage of the Airspace Location and Enhanced Risk Transparency Act of 2026 or the ALERT Act through the U.S. House of Representatives:

"No one should ever suffer from the loss of a loved one from a preventable tragedy like that of Flight 5342. Following the collision between a commercial flight and a U.S. Army helicopter that claimed the lives of my constituents, Christine and Spencer Lane, I welcome steps to strengthen aviation safety.

The House passage of the ALERT Act must not be the end of our work. The families and loved ones of Flight 5342, including Christine's widower, Doug Lane, have spent more than a year advocating for change. As this bill moves to the Senate, I will continue working alongside the families to ensure the National Transportation Safety Board's recommendations are fully and faithfully incorporated, that safety standards in shared airspace are truly uniform, and that implementation is enforced without delay.

We owe it to the victims, their families, and the flying public to meet this moment with urgency and legislative action. We must keep our skies safe and ensure this never happens again."
