Bipartisan Rosen Bill to Ensure All VA Medical Centers Have Dedicated Nursing Spaces Passes Senate

WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Senate recently unanimously passed legislation introduced by Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) to ensure all Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers have designated nursing spaces. The bipartisan, bicameral Lactation Spaces for Veteran Moms Act would ensure all medical centers managed by the VA contain a hygienic, private space specifically dedicated for nursing veterans, VA employees, and their partners. As of 2022, there were only 90 VA medical centers across the country with such rooms.

"Our women veterans have given so much in service to our country, and they deserve the same level of support and dignity when they seek care," said Senator Rosen. "I'm thrilled the Senate unanimously passed my bill to make sure that nursing mothers, VA employees, and their family members have access to a private and hygienic place to nurse at VA medical centers."

Senator Rosen has been actively working to ensure that Nevada's veterans have the federal support they need. This year, she introduced the FORGOTTEN Veterans Act, which would ensure that veterans who served at classified locations within the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) since 1951 are able to prove that they served there, and can finally get the PACT Act benefits they deserve following their exposure to radiation from nuclear tests and other toxins. Senator Rosen also introduced a bipartisan bill with Senator Moran to incentivize employers to hire student veterans for part-time work and paid internships. She's also secured funding to increase access to affordable housing for veterans, continue building Nevada's first national veterans cemetery in Elko, and increase funding for veterans' access to telehealth.
