Thanks to a dense layer of fog blanketing the Central Valley, winter has seemed a lot colder this year - especially for those experiencing homelessness.

Guided by our Cause and a mission to better the lives of all those we serve, Community recently made a sizable investment in Fresno Mission to establish two emergency warming centers in downtown Fresno providing shelter for those who need it during extremely cold weather. Fresno Mission is a nonprofit organization providing emergency and crisis housing, counseling services, meals and more.

In addition to the monetary gift, Community employees contributed 1,500 new and gently used coats, sweaters and blankets for those in need.

Community invests millions annually throughout the region

The gift to Fresno Mission is part of Community Health System's community benefit program.

Each year, Community reaches beyond our hospital walls to invest millions of dollars throughout the region to help improve the community's overall health and wellbeing. Our investments are based on input gathered via a community health needs assessment (CHNA), which identifies the top health needs across four counties: Fresno, Madera, Kings and Tulare.

Historically, Community has spent more on uncompensated community benefit than all other Fresno-area hospitals combined.

The donation to Fresno Mission and the coat drive help support the CHNA-identified health need of economic stability, which addresses food insecurity and homelessness.
