The Canadian Chamber of Commerce welcomes the direction set out in Canada's new National AI Strategy, which reflects several priorities we have consistently advanced on behalf of the Canadian business community.
In particular, we are encouraged to see the government set a clear, measurable target to increase AI business adoption from 12% to 60% by 2034, with a particular focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Taking an industry sector-specific approach to achieve this objective makes sense.
We also support further investments in AI literacy, which is vital in ensuring both the current and future workers are equipped with the proper skills to be competitive in an evolving labour market.
As the government prioritizes strengthening multinational partnerships with trusted allies in this space, the Canadian Chamber stands ready to leverage its global network of AI policy partners. Several elements of this strategy align closely with our own policy work through the "Business 7" (B7) platform, including our 2025 B7 Communique.
Overall, the document appears to be an ambitious guiding strategy that now needs an execution plan and specific programs.
The Canadian Chamber and its Future of AI Council look forward to working closely with the government to ensure this vision is put into action. Implementation of this strategy, in partnership with the Canadian business community, will be essential for its success.
The Canadian Chamber of Commerce is Canada's largest and most activated business network - representing over 400 chambers of commerce and boards of trade and more than 200,000 business of all sizes, from all sectors of the economy and from every part of the country - working to create the conditions for our collective success. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce is the undisputed champion and catalyst for the future of business success. From working with government on economy-friendly policy to providing services that inform commerce and enable trade, we give each of our members more of what they need to succeed: insight into markets, competitors and trends, influence over the decisions and policies that drive business success, and impact on business and economic performance.
