The City of Hemet Offers Free Sand for Sandbags Ahead of Heavy Rainfall

The City of Hemet expects heavy rainfall this week and urges residents to take proactive steps to protect their homes, property, and neighborhood from potential flooding. To support storm preparedness, the City provides free sand for sandbags at all five Hemet Fire Stations.

Sandbags are crucial in preventing water intrusion and minimizing flood damage, especially in areas prone to runoff or standing water. When properly placed, they can help divert water from doorways, garages, and low-lying areas, reducing the risk of costly water damage.

Residents may pick up free sand at the following Hemet Fire Stations:

  • Fire Station #1 - 220 N. Juanita St. (Corner of Devonshire and Juanita)
  • Fire Station #2 - 895 W. Stetson Ave.
  • Fire Station #3 - 4110 W. Devonshire Ave.
  • Fire Station #4 - 1035 S. Cawston Ave.
  • Fire Station #5 - 120 N. Hemet St.

Residents must bring their own sandbags and shovels to fill and load sand. Those needing sandbags can check with their local hardware store for availability.

The City urges all residents to remain alert to weather updates, secure outdoor items, and clear gutters and drains to prevent water buildup.
