API Pennsylvania Statement on Gov. Shapiro’s Proposed 2026-27 Budget

HARRISBURG, PA, February 3, 2026 - American Petroleum Institute Pennsylvania (API PA) Executive Director Stephanie Catarino Wissman today issued the following statement in reaction to Governor Josh Shapiro's 2026-27 budget plan:

"In energy-rich Pennsylvania, natural gas is critical to our economy and essential to meeting surging demand for affordable, reliable energy. As we enter the 'demand decade,' energy access and infrastructure must continue to be a top priority for the Governor and state policymakers to help meet the moment. Embracing pragmatic solutions that include permit reform and prioritize reliability and affordability over ideology will help secure Pennsylvania's energy future."

Pennsylvania is the second-largest natural gas producer in the U.S., behind only Texas. Natural gas development generates billions of dollars annually for the economy, supports tens of thousands of jobs, contributes royalty payments to landowners and has contributed over $2.88 billion in impact tax funding for critical environmental, infrastructure, public safety and other projects.

The American Petroleum Institute Pennsylvania (API Pennsylvania) is a state affiliate office of the American Petroleum Institute (API). The API represents all segments of America's oil and natural gas industry, supporting nearly 11 million U.S. jobs. With approximately 600 members, API companies produce, process and distribute the majority of the nation's energy. Founded in 1919, API has developed over 800 standards to enhance operational and environmental safety, efficiency, and sustainability. Learn more at API.org.
