BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is partnering with Mt. Canaan Baptist Church for a drive-through flu shot clinic on Saturday, Sept. 20.
Flu viruses and other respiratory viruses typically spread in the fall and winter. The Centers for Disease Control have noted that getting a flu vaccine every year is a proven way to prevent complications from the flu.
Walgreens Pharmacy representatives will administer flu vaccines to those ages 8 and older from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. EST in the church parking lot. BlueCross members or others with health insurance must bring their insurance card to receive the flu vaccine as part of their coverage. Vaccines will also be available for self-paying customers.
"Getting your flu shot is a proven way to help stay healthy during flu season," said Dr. Andrea D. Willis, senior vice president and chief medical officer at BlueCross. "We encourage Tennesseans to get vaccinated-not just for their own protection, but to help shield those around them who may be more vulnerable to serious flu complications."
The flu vaccine takes about two weeks to reach its maximum effectiveness, so BlueCross urges members to get vaccinated before peak flu season begins.
