MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) traveled to the Eastern Panhandle where she made several stops focused on community and economic development.

First, Senator Capito delivered keynote remarks at the ribbon cutting ceremony for Shepherd University's Agribusiness Center at Tabler Farm. Senator Capito secured over $1 million in Congressional Directed Spending (CDS) funds for this project.

"It was a pleasure to participate in today's ribbon cutting for Shepherd University's new Agribusiness Center, which I was proud to help secure funding for. This center will not only serve as a model for others to follow, but also as a launchpad for small agricultural businesses, a place where ideas can blossom, and where West Virginians can turn their passion for faming into thriving initiatives," Senator Capito said.

"The new Agribusiness Center at Shepherd University will serve as a hub for academic exploration, entrepreneurial growth, and regional collaboration - benefiting our students, Agricultural Small Business Incubator participants, and the broader agricultural community. We are deeply appreciative to Senator Capito and the dedicated individuals who came together to invest in the future of Shepherd. This facility is a testament to their vision and support of our mission to train the next generation of leaders and model citizens," Dr. Mary Hendrix, Shepherd University President, said.

Next, Senator Capito traveled to Charles Town, W.Va. to participate in a roundtable discussion with mayors from across Jefferson County. During the roundtable, Senator Capito listened to mayors' priorities for their communities and discussed what she can do in her capacity as a United States Senator to improve local and federal government collaboration.

"It was wonderful getting to sit down with Jefferson County leaders today and to hear their priorities and concerns. I am so encouraged by their love for and commitment to their communities. I look forward to continuing to work with them in the years to come to capitalize on all that Jefferson County has to offer," Senator Capito said.

Then, Senator Capito visited CMC Steel in Martinsburg, W.Va. to see the progress on the recycled steel mill currently under construction. Senator Capito has been a longtime champion of this project.

"It was great to tour the CMC Steel plant and see the progress they've made. Once completed, this plant will be an economic driver in the Eastern Panhandle, and further cement West Virginia as a leader in manufacturing," Senator Capito said.

"CMC is honored to welcome Senator Capito back to CMC Steel West Virginia. CMC's investment in Berkely County marks an important milestone towards our ongoing commitment to growth and long-term commitment in strengthening West Virginia's economy through the creation of new, high-quality jobs. We sincerely appreciate the Senator's steadfast support throughout the construction process as we move into the final stages before production begins in mid-2026," Christian Fisher, Director of Operations, CMC Steel West Virginia, said.

Last, Senator Capito finished the day in Inwood, W.Va. touring the new Inwood Park, which she secured over $1 million in Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) for.

"I was excited to see the progress the Berkeley County Commission has made on Inwood Park. This will be a fantastic park that families and people of all ages will be able to enjoy for generations to come," Senator Capito said.

"Senator Capito's support of the Inwood Park project through the allocation of $1.1 million in Congressional Directed Spending was a critical piece of the funding puzzle that we needed to break ground on the first phase of this future recreation site. We are thankful for Sen. Capito's support of this quality-of-life project for the Inwood area and are excited to show real progress being made to make this park a reality," Eddie Gochenour, Berkeley County Commission President, said.

Additionally, Senator Capito met with Martinsburg, W.Va. Mayor Kevin Knowles and City Manager Andy Blake to discuss the latest projects, needs, and challenges in the area.
