Washington County Invites Community Input on Updates to the Community Development Code (CDC)

Washington County has been reviewing its Community Development Code-the rules that guide how land is used and developed-to determine how it might be changed to reflect state law, be more user friendly, and reduce barriers to producing housing. Future updates will affect housing, transportation, businesses, and public spaces for years to come.

Why should this matter to you?
Few documents have as much influence as the Community Development Code to shape how our community grows: the kinds of housing that can be provided, the resources protected, and the guidelines that encourage the creation of vibrant neighborhoods.

We want to make the Community Development Code easier to use and more effective for all users.
Potential updates include:

  • Removing barriers to housing development, especially affordable housing
  • Ensuring compliance with state law
  • Making standards clear and objective
  • Simplifying land use districts
  • Combining redundant rules

Getting the Community Development Code right matters for everyone. We want to ensure the code supports housing availability, encourages quality development, and is easy to understand for residents, property owners, and developers alike.

We want your input! Join one of our open houses to learn more and share your feedback:
