This week's Local Spotlight is James Joseph.
When James was younger, he dreamed of playing in the NBA. And that dream took him on a different path with an incredible career with the Harlem Globetrotters.
Later, he worked and still works with UPS, now about 30 years. But in that career, things took an unexpected turn. One day, working on his delivery route, he noticed something that just didn't seem right. Something that seemed odd.
James could have seen the problem and kept moving. But he stopped. He noticed. He asked. He cared. And he continues to ask.
So many people want to help, maybe want to volunteer. James' example tells us you start by asking that simple question: What do you need? And then you meet that need.
Now, clearly, James has got a big heart. He's passionate about helping those around him. So let's ask, what inspires you to do this every day? Because this is a lot of hard work. How do you do so much?
I love his answer. His mother, Lillie, his uncle Jessie, may not have realized how their generosity and service would inspire James. And that's a lesson for us all.
You never know who is watching. You might be someone else's example. You know how many seeds are in an apple. But not how many apples are in a seed.
Your generosity to another, encouraging them to help and be generous to others, to serve others, can pay forward for generations. Remember, all it takes is one simple question-what do you need?
And when you ask it, you might change the world for the better, just like James Joseph.
James- Louisiana, our nation needs more people like you. You are an inspiration. Thank you for who you are and what you're doing.
