A Dream Come True: ECMO Celebration honors survivors and care team

"If it wasn't for this team, I wouldn't be alive today. They are my family now."

Hugs, tears, and inspiring stories filled the air at our 3rd annual ECMO Survivors Celebration. The gathering honored the incredible strength and resilience of our patients along with the dedicated "ECMO Team" that provides this life-saving care.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), used at Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola since 2023, is a highly specialized life support system for patients with severe heart or lung failure. It acts as the patient's heart and lungs, allowing these organs to rest and heal. While not a cure, it provides the crucial support needed while underlying conditions are treated.

For the "ECMO Team", seeing the drive and passion of these patients as they return to visit is "absolutely a dream come true".

We are so proud to celebrate these journeys of survival and the specialized care delivered through ECMO at Ascension Sacred Heart.
