The ABU convened its Sports Committee Meeting on 11 September 2025, where members and observers met onsite and online to review sports broadcasting priorities and strengthen collaboration across the region.
The meeting was attended by Uuganbayar Otgonbayar, Director of MNB Sports, Mongolia; Nam Sang Won, ABU Sports Group Vice Chairperson and Deputy Director at the Sports Planning and Production Team, KBS South Korea; Emre Botan Kümet, ABU Sports Group Vice Chairperson and Director of TRT Spor, Türkiye; Ahmed Nadeem, ABU Secretary-General; and Manoja Nadeeshana Amarasinghe, Director General of SLRC Sri Lanka.
Committee members from KBS, MNB, FBC, TRT, and CMG were present onsite, while ATN-Afghanistan, IRIB-Iran, and TVB-Hong Kong participated online. Observers included NHK - Japan, NBT-Thailand, SLRC- Sri Lanka, RTM- Malaysia, and BBS- Bhutan onsite, with Mediacorp - Singapore participated online.
The main highlights of the meeting were that committee members expressed full support for the ABU Sports Department, and the ABU Secretary-General proposed continuing the practice of acquiring rights for smaller events. He also encouraged members to pursue pooled acquisitions for larger sporting events to ensure greater value and cooperation.
The meeting concluded, with the committee welcoming its newly elected vice-chairpersons, Mr Nam Sang Won of KBS and Mr Emre Botan Kümet of TRT Spor, Türkiye.
