DeLauro Issues Statement on Israel-Hamas Ceasefire Agreement

WASHINGTON-Today, US Representative Rosa DeLauro issued the following statement regarding news that the Israeli government has accepted a ceasefire deal with Hamas that would halt fighting in Gaza and see the release of all remaining hostages:

"I am rejoicing alongside the Israeli and Palestinian people that a ceasefire deal to free the remaining hostages and halt the fighting in Gaza is finally here. This deal will allow Israeli hostages to finally be reunited with their families, and now humanitarian aid must be surged into Gaza. It is time for a major international relief effort to end the state of famine afflicting nearly 2 million people in Gaza, and to begin serious planning for a rebuilding effort that centers a two-state solution. Israel and Hamas must continue to strictly observe the ceasefire, in order to maintain progress at this critical time.

"Many challenges remain ahead, but this is a promising and long-awaited first step on the road to peace. Today, I am thankful."
