The City continues to work closely with our partners at the LA County Sheriff's Department to address encampments citywide. This remains one of our top public safety priorities, and we are making progress every day. This week, Captain Dustin Carr, Commanding Officer of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station (LASD) briefed the City and Supervisor Horvath's team on their recent efforts to address community concerns and options about public safety related to homelessness. Some efforts underway include:
The meeting followed the City Council's declaration of a local state of emergency on September 29, 2025. While the City actively removes known encampments year round, this declaration facilitates a more rapid removal of illegal homeless encampments while the Live Fuel Moisture content remains below 65% - a critical level.
