Southeastern unveils new ‘Rise Here’ university tagline

DURANT, Okla. - Southeastern Oklahoma State University is introducing a new universitywide tagline, "Rise Here," reflecting the spirit, opportunity and momentum that define the Southeastern experience.

The tagline expresses a simple belief: Southeastern is a place where people rise. It represents the transformation that occurs as students, faculty and staff discover their potential, pursue meaningful goals and prepare to make a difference in their communities and careers.

"Rise Here is ultimately about possibility and hope," said Southeastern President David Whitlock. "It reflects where our students are today, where they want to go and how Southeastern helps them move forward with purpose. We help learners rise to meet new opportunities. Through practical learning and personal support, students build the knowledge and skills needed to advance their careers, navigate change, and succeed in high-demand industries. Inspired by our rich history and focused on the future, Southeastern creates pathways for every learner to achieve their goals and make an impact."

"Rise Here" connects Southeastern's rich history with its future, paying tribute to the university's longtime nickname, "The School of the Rising Sun."

"Rise Here captures what makes Southeastern special," said Blake Allen, executive director of marketing and communications. "Our students come here with goals and dreams for their future, and Southeastern helps them turn those goals into reality. It's a place where people have the opportunity to grow, build confidence and see what's possible for themselves."

Research in higher education branding and marketing shows that a strong, consistent tagline can help reinforce brand recognition and create a shared identity across audiences and platforms. "Rise Here" provides Southeastern with a concise, memorable message that can be consistently incorporated into social media, advertising, recruitment materials, university communications, athletics and other touchpoints.
