The City of Mesa is partnering with United Food Bank to collect turkeys to ensure families in need can enjoy a holiday meal. The annual Turkey Tuesday frozen turkey and cash donation drive will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Mesa Convention Center North Parking Lot, located at 40 E. MLK Jr. Way (E. 3rd Place), from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. This year's goal is to collect 2,000 turkeys and $20,000 in cash donations.
"Mesa has always been a city built on community, service and shared purpose. With our 17-year Turkey Tuesday tradition, we're once again stepping up together to ensure every family in our city can enjoy a meaningful Thanksgiving," said Mayor Mark Freeman.
Over the years, Mesa's generosity through Turkey Tuesday has yielded an estimated 20,000 turkeys and $200,000 in donations. This year, event sponsors Desert Financial Credit Union, State Farm, and the Arizona Cardinals are teaming up to match up to $75,000 in monetary donations to help provide holiday meals this November.
Those who are able to share holiday cheer with families in need can drop off their donations at the event. In addition to frozen turkeys, Mesa employees will also be collecting cash donations and canned goods to help benefit United Food Bank. Every $31 raised helps provide a turkey for a family in need this holiday season. Cash donations can be made in-person at the event or online at feedaz.org.
"We are honored to once again be the recipient of the City of Mesa's annual Turkey Tuesday," said Jason Reed, CEO of United Food Bank. "Each year, United Food Bank helps thousands of Arizona families share a traditional holiday meal. We are grateful to the generous donors who make this possible; your contributions truly make a difference in the lives of those in need this holiday season."
This year marks the 17th Annual Turkey Tuesday collaboration between the City of Mesa and United Food Bank. The food will be distributed the next day, Nov. 19, at United Food Bank's annual Thanksgiving Holiday Distribution for eligible residents from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until the food is gone.
