Fall Leaf Collection UPDATED INFORMATION

The City of Clayton understands the frustration many residents have expressed regarding leaf collection this year. We share your concerns, and we want to provide an update on the challenges our crews have been working through.

This fall brought several unexpected factors:

  • Leaves dropped significantly later than usual, delaying collection progress.
  • Snow arrived earlier than we typically experience, covering and freezing leaf piles.
  • Our new leaf machine, scheduled to arrive before collection began, was delayed, and once delivered, the equipment did not function properly and had to be returned.
  • Our two existing leaf machines experienced mechanical breakdowns during the collection process, further slowing operations.

Despite these setbacks, our crews are committed to completing leaf pick-up as efficiently as possible. While in past years we have stopped leaf collection once snowplows were placed on the trucks, that will NOT be the case this year.

What to Expect Moving Forward

  • As temperatures warm and the snow melts, allowing leaf piles to thaw, crews will resume leaf collection.
  • Crews will make one final pass on each street. Once your street has been completed for the last time, we will not be able to return.

We know this year's collection has been far from ideal, and we sincerely apologize for the delays and complications. We appreciate your patience and understanding as our staff works through these circumstances and strives to finish the season strong.
