The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded Virginia Tech, based in Blacksburg, Virginia, a grant for $617,181. The funding supports research into heart arrhythmia mechanisms. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:
"The heart is a major organ that supports the cardiovascular system.
"This HHS grant for more than $617,000 helps Virginia Tech delve deeper into cardiovascular research."
BACKGROUND
The HHS office responsible for this grant is the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute.
As a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, Congressman Griffith serves as the Chairman of the Health Subcommittee.
