The DC Housing Authority hosted two town halls for landlords in recent months as part of the Keys to Success event series led by the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) and Office of Customer Engagement (OCE) staff.
More than 200 current and prospective landlords attended the in-person town hall on May 20, while more than 100 landlords participated in the June 17 town hall.
Attendees gathered in the Panorama Room, where HCVP staff gave presentations and answered questions about DCHA's voucher programs. Topics included:
Keys to Success as a DCHA Partner - which is focused on landlords - is one arm in the event series. The second is Keys to Success as an HCVP Participant, an in-person town hall involving informational sessions and customer service support for current voucher participants and waitlist households.
HCVP, formally known as Section 8, is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and administered locally by DCHA.
HCVP provides rental assistance to eligible families so that they can obtain affordable housing in the private rental market. HCVP participants pay a portion of their unit's rent based on a percentage of their household's annual adjusted gross income. On average, HCVP participants' rent is about 30% of their household's income. The remaining amount is paid by DCHA directly to the property owner. DCHA's payment is called the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP).
