Emmer Statement on Becker Post Office Reopening

OTSEGO, MN - Congressman Tom Emmer released the following statement regarding news that the United States Postal Service (USPS) is reopening a Post Office in the City of Becker.

"Finally, after a year of advocacy with Mayor Mark Kolbinger and the City of Becker, the USPS has made the right call to bring back postal service to Becker," said Congressman Tom Emmer. "Thank you to Mayor Kolbinger for his leadership, partnership, and constant communication with us as we worked to resolve this. It's a great day for Becker!"

"I am grateful for the assistance we received from Congressman Emmer and his staff throughout this process," said Mayor Kolbinger. "From our first meeting with USPS personnel in February of 2025, until our final decision announcement on May 5, 2026, he and his staff have been in near constant contact regarding the situation. I appreciate their advocacy on behalf of the over 10,000 residents of zip code 55308."

Background:

Congressman Emmer, Mayor Kolbinger, and the City of Becker have been working to restore a post office in Becker for over a year. Had the postal service for the 55308 area been serviced out of Monticello, route drivers would have added more than 1,000 additional delivery miles each week to service the City of Becker. The Office of Congressman Emmer spoke and met with the USPS several times during this period to explain the negatives of closing Becker's post office. Emmer also sent written inquiries to the USPS advocating for the Becker post office to remain in the city.
