Idaho releases 2025 statewide crash report

BOISE - The Idaho Transportation Department's Office of Highway Safety has released the 2025 Idaho Crash Report, providing a comprehensive look at crash trends, contributing factors, and statewide safety data from last year.

The 2025 Idaho Crash Report includes statewide crash statistics, fatality and injury rates, crash trends by month and time of day, county-level data, and analysis of contributing circumstances. It also features Idaho's annual observational seat belt survey, which measures statewide seat belt use at 180 sites across the state. OHS maintains Idaho's statewide collision database and uses this information to support data-driven decisions that improve roadway safety for all Idahoans.

In 2025, the total number of motor vehicle crashes decreased slightly; down 0.1% from 28,158 in 2024 to 28,127. However, fatal crashes increased from 219 to 231, and fatalities rose from 238 to 252, a 5% increase.

While 71% of all crashes occurred on urban roadways, 66% of fatal crashes happened on rural roads, continuing a long-standing trend in Idaho.

Aggressive driving remained a significant factor in Idaho crashes. In 2025, aggressive driving contributed to 48% of all motor vehicle crashes, and 99 people were killed in aggressive-driving crashes. Speed was the largest contributing circumstance in those fatal aggressive-driving incidents.

Teen drivers, ages 15 to 19, also continue to be over-represented in crashes. In 2025, teen drivers were 2.1 times as likely as all other drivers to be involved in a fatal or injury crash. Thirty-two people were killed in crashes involving teen drivers.
