GPA Midstream released the following statement:
This week, the Senate unanimously passed the "Pipeline Integrity, Protection, and Enhancement for Leveraging Investments in the Nation's Energy to assure Safety Act of 2025," also known as the "PIPELINE Safety Act of 2025." We appreciate Senator Ted Cruz's, R-Texas, leadership in guiding this critical legislation - important to GPA Midstream and GPSA members - through the process on Capitol Hill.
The bill reauthorizes the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration's pipeline safety program for five years and includes several provisions to strengthen pipeline safety. For GPA Midstream and GPSA members, a key provision is a statutory update to ensure appropriate regulation of in-plant piping.
Under the Senate-passed bill, low-risk pipelines located entirely within plant boundaries would no longer face duplicative oversight, particularly where they are already covered by other rigorous safety programs, such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Process Safety Management standards.
GPA Midstream and GPSA will now support the House as it seeks to pass reauthorization legislation, allowing for this important legislation to reach the president's desk and become law.
