CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) contract crews will conduct a routine inspection of the Holman J. Walker Bridge, which carries I-24 over the Tennessee River near the rest area in Marion County. The work will take approximately five days to complete.
This bridge requires a hands-on inspection of specific steel members. Specialized equipment will be used to access these areas, making temporary lane closures necessary for the safety of workers and drivers.
· June 22-25 - The right lane and shoulder of I-24 East will be closed daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM local time for the full length of the bridge.
· June 26 - The right lane and shoulder of I-24 West will be closed from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM local time for the full length of the bridge.
These inspections are part of TDOT's ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and longevity of Tennessee's bridges.
As always, motorists are reminded to use TDOT's motorist information tools and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before departing. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on the phone while driving. For the latest updates, visit the TDOT SmartWay Map or dial 511 for statewide travel information.
Tennessee's Move Over Law requires drivers to move over for highway workers and emergency vehicles. Violations may result in up to 30 days in jail and fines up to $500.
