WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09) announced that her office has successfully returned more than $5 million to constituents through direct casework assistance since taking office in January 2023. These funds represent money owed back to individuals across Indiana's Ninth District from federal agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Social Security Administration, IRS, and others.
"Helping constituents navigate the federal bureaucracy is one of the most important responsibilities of our office," said Congresswoman Houchin. "Whether it is a veteran waiting on benefits, a family needing assistance with Social Security, or helping a taxpayer resolve issues with the IRS, our team is here to cut through the red tape and get results. Every dollar returned is a reminder that government should work for the people, not the other way around."
Deborah Townsend, a constituent from New Albany, turned to the Congresswoman's office after years of frustration with the Office of Personnel Management.
"I had been waiting for nearly two years with no progress on my claim and no answers from a federal agency. After countless phone calls and dead ends, I reached out to Congresswoman Houchin's office. Thanks to their persistence, I finally received more than $43,000 that I was owed. I am so grateful for their help in making sure my case was resolved," said Townsend.
