Rep. Gillen Fights for Funding for Health Care, Public Safety, Clean Water, Safe Roads, Other Priorities for Nassau County

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY - Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) led a bipartisan group of colleagues in urging Congress to direct federal funding to several Nassau County priorities, including health care access, support for local police and fire departments, clean water infrastructure, safer roads, and nonprofit security grants for houses of worship. Rep. Gillen's colleagues joined her in a series of letters to the House Appropriations Committee ahead of its work on Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) funding.

"Since taking office, I've been focused on delivering for families and businesses across Nassau County, including through federal investments," said Rep. Gillen. "As Long Islanders, we send more of our hard-earned tax dollars to Washington than we get back. That's why I'm fighting to get more of those dollars back and ensure Congress is investing in our communities."

The letters Rep. Gillen is leading to the Appropriations Committee for FY27 include bipartisan support for:

  • Equipping law enforcement with EpiPens for emergencies;
  • Bridge Investment Program grants;
  • Clean Water Infrastructure programs; and
  • Safer airspaces by hiring aviation meteorologists at FAA Air Traffic Control Centers.

The letters Rep. Gillen is co-leading to the Appropriations Committee for FY27 include support for:

  • The highest possible funding for recruitment, retention, and resources for local police departments through the COPS Hiring and Byrne JAG grant programs;
  • Increased funding for recruitment, staffing, and equipment for local fire departments through the SAFER and AFG grant programs;
  • $1 billion for the FEMA Nonprofit Security Grant Program for houses of worship;
  • Black maternal health resources and initiatives;
  • Combatting antisemitism and funding Holocaust education and assistance for Holocaust survivors;
  • Increased security on public transit systems;
  • Safe Streets and Roads for All grants; and
  • The National Labor Relations Board to support union workers.
