Over three weeks into Donald Trump's government shutdown, Trump's priorities seem to be everywhere except with working families and the 22 million people who are about to see their health care premiums skyrocket. Since Trump's shutdown began, he has:
Even Trump's own allies in Congress have pointed out that their "dealmaker-in-chief" has done nothing to reopen the government.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
"Americans blame Trump and Republicans for the shutdown by double digits - and for good reason. He has abandoned working families and the 22 million people who are about to wake up on November 1st to massive health care cost hikes. Trump would rather focus on increasing his personal fortune, building his luxurious ballroom, and commuting criminals' prison sentences than reopening the government and protecting health care. Trump's presidency has never been about helping working families - it has only ever been about enriching the ultrawealthy and helping his most loyal allies, while everyone else gets left in the dust."
Trump refuses to join Democrats on a common-sense proposal that reopens the government and protects millions of Americans' health insurance costs from increasing by an average of 114% as the open enrollment period for the ACA marketplace quickly approaches. The message is clear: Trump and Republicans are hell bent on protecting their billionaire tax cuts instead of making health care affordable for Americans.
