Abacus GRC Director on the Cyber Risk Private Markets Firms Overlook

The Drawdown recently published a feature examining the growing cyber risks facing private markets firms. Abacus Director of Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC), Mick Grayson, was quoted on the dangers that arise when firms treat IT and cybersecurity as a single function - particularly where IT infrastructure is outsourced to a third-party provider and cybersecurity isn't treated as a discrete risk, which he described as "the biggest internal threat we see."

Grayson highlighted the growing sophistication of AI-enabled attacks, where the usual warning signs of poor grammar and spelling no longer apply. He also discussed the importance of strong access controls and data governance in response, keeping AI tools to the same permissions as back-end infrastructure and segregating data so teams only see what they need. Alongside evolving external threats, he pointed to incident response and business continuity planning as areas firms too often overlook.

The Drawdown is a leading specialist publication covering private equity, private debt, infrastructure, and the wider private capital market, reaching senior investment, operations, finance, legal, and technology professionals.
