Four years ago, the City of Tampa decided its streets deserved better -- pothole and street repairs had to be done faster. Out of that commitment, the Fix-it-Fast program was born.
Today, the City is celebrating the four-year anniversary of Fix-it-Fast, a rapid-response program that has transformed how Tampa addresses potholes and other critical street repairs.
Launched in September 2021, Fix-it-Fast is designed to complete repairs within 72 hours of a report being filed, often much sooner. Since its inception, crews have repaired nearly 18,000 potholes (17,945 to date and counting) across the city -- making commutes smoother and safer for all roadway users.
But the program is also about much more than potholes.
Fix-it-Fast crews also handle:
"Fix-it-Fast does exactly what the name implies," said Tampa Mayor Jane Castor. "It isn't a replacement for paving, it's a quick band-aid until our paving machines roll through. But thanks to this program, we're extending the life of our roads, and making them safer at the same time."
While the Fix-it-Fast program has made significant progress, paving is the gold standard. So far this year, the City of Tampa has paved 49 lane miles and spent about $10 million of its $14 million paving budget.
In FY26, the City's paving budget will increase to about $41 million, thanks largely to rollover funds and $21.1 million in All For Transportation funds.
