Rancho Cordova and Public Safety Partners Highlight Illegal Fireworks Enforcement Ahead of Fourth of July

Post Date: 06/18/2026

With the Fourth of July holiday approaching, the City of Rancho Cordova and its public safety partners are reminding residents that illegal fireworks are prohibited year-round and increased fines are now in place.

During a media availability held Thursday, June 18, at the Rancho Cordova Police Department, representatives from the City of Rancho Cordova, Rancho Cordova Police Department, Neighborhood Services and Sacramento Metro Fire shared how agencies are working together to help keep the community safe during the holiday and throughout the year.

The city's approach includes public education, coordinated enforcement, increased penalties, resident reporting tools and the use of technology to identify and respond to illegal fireworks activity.

Illegal fireworks are never allowed in Rancho Cordova. Safe & Sane fireworks are only allowed June 28 through July 4 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The city is also reminding residents about increased fines for illegal fireworks violations:

  • $1,000 per illegal firework in neighborhoods
  • $10,000 per illegal firework on school property

Violations may also result in jail time.

Residents who suspect illegal fireworks activity can report it through Rancho Cordova Connect, the city's online reporting app, or by calling the RCPD non-emergency line at 916.362.5115 with the location of the activity.

The city encourages everyone to celebrate responsibly and leave the fireworks to the professionals.
