Nodaway County U.S. Route 71 resurfacing project to begin March 26…

Atchison and Nodaway County U.S. Route 136 resurfacing update

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Herzog Contracting Corp., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will resurface Nodaway County U.S. Route 71 from the Iowa State line to U.S. Route 136 near Burlington Junction. The project is scheduled to begin tomorrow, Thursday, March 26.

Traffic Impacts: U.S. Route 71 will be narrowed to one lane with flaggers and a pilot car directing motorists through the work zone through late April 2026. The speed limit through the work zone will be lowered to 35 miles per hour, and a width restriction of 10-foot will be in place. All work is expected to take place Monday through Friday during daylight hours.

Resurfacing of U.S. Route 136 in Atchison/Nodaway counties from Interstate 29 in Rock Port to Route 71 east of Burlington Junction will pause while the contractor resurfaces Route 71 north of the Route 136 intersection. The contractor is then scheduled to complete the Route 136 resurfacing before returning to complete the section of Route 71 south of Route 136 to Route CC north of Maryville. All work is scheduled to be complete by mid-August 2026.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change. Know before you go by visiting the MoDOT Traveler Information Map for work zone information and road conditions at http://traveler.modot.org/map/, or downloading from your smart phone's app store.
