Denver Launches New Residential Health Dashboards

DDPHE works to increase transparency and support healthy housing

The Denver Department of Public Health & Environment (DDPHE) has launched new tools to provide residents with greater access to information about housing complaints, violations and residential health trends across Denver.

A suite of new dashboards is designed to make residential health information more transparent, helping tenants, landlords, property managers and community members better understand housing conditions throughout the city. The tools also support DDPHE's ongoing efforts to promote safe and healthy housing for all Denver residents.

"Our goal is to make Residential Health information more accessible, transparent and useful for everyone," said Nicol Caldwell, Public Health Investigations, Health Families Healthy Homes Section Manager. "These dashboards empower residents with information, help prospective tenants make informed housing decisions and provide a clearer picture of housing conditions across Denver."

The dashboards were proposed by a coalition of community organizations who advocated for and engaged in the Residential Health 2025 Stakeholder Series and were developed through extensive collaboration with the coalition. The dashboards reflect months of feedback and refinement to ensure they meet the needs of the public and make important housing information easier to access.

"Data transparency is important in helping tenants, policymakers, advocates, and legal aid in upholding current laws and informing policy decisions by providing a clearer picture of housing conditions. While this transparency is significant, it is also imperative that we ensure landlords maintain living conditions that they are legally bound to uphold through meaningful enforcement. This data access is a step in the right direction to continue to strengthen current programs meant to protect tenants." - Tenant Power Alliance, representing the Denver Metro Tenants Union, East Colfax Community Collective, The Redress Movement, GES Coalition, Justice for the People, Towards Justice, Colorado Poverty Law Project and Sue My Landlord.

The new dashboard suite includes three interactive tools:

• Residential Health Program Insights - provides an overview of the Residential Health Program's work and impact throughout Denver.
• Residential Health Searchable Complaints - allows users to search residential health complaints and violations by address or complaint record ID through an interactive map.
• Residential Health Trends - features interactive maps showing complaints and violations by neighborhood and City Council district, along with the locations of Residential Health violations cited since mid-2022.

The dashboards help current and prospective tenants better understand housing conditions, allowing users to track the status of Residential Health complaints, identifying areas experiencing higher numbers of complaints or violations and providing greater visibility into DDPHE's work to protect public health through housing enforcement.

Spanish-language versions of the dashboards are expected to launch later this year, expanding access for more Denver residents.

DDPHE is committed to ensuring residents have a safe and healthy place to live and prioritizes community voice to make improvements to our processes. Residents, tenants, landlords, property managers and community organizations are encouraged to participate in the Residential Health Rules and Regulations Community Feedback Survey to inform upcoming updates to Denver's housing codes. The survey is available in English and Español.
