Washington, D.C. - Today, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability for the House Committee on Homeland Security, Congressman Shri Thanedar (MI-13) released the following statement:
"Secretary Kristi Noem has lied to Congress and to the American people. Under her leadership, ICE agents have wreaked havoc on communities across this country. She has disgraced our democracy." Secretary Noem has committed the following offenses:
Eight people have been shot by DHS agents, five of them U.S. citizens.
One citizen, Reene Nicole Good, was murdered in Minneapolis last week. Despite video evidence, Secretary Noem publicly defended the agent.
In 2025, 32 people died in ICE detention centers.
DHS shields agents from accountability through qualified immunity.
Secretary Noem denied Members of Congress access to immigration facilities.
DHS blocked congressional oversight and ignored lawful requests from Congress regarding agency operations.
"At a Homeland Security hearing in December, I called out Noem for lying to me in a Congressional hearing, and demanded she resign. Secretary Noem's actions go beyond incompetence. She has broken the law. I fully support the impeachment of Kristi Noem."
Congressman Shri Thanedar proudly represents Michigan's 13th Congressional District, which includes Detroit, Downriver, and the Grosse Pointes.
